With the LCS Spring Split starting in just a few days, now would be a good time to dig into the first weeks matches. It will be the first time a majority of these teams will be able to show off their new rosters with the exception of a few teams not having a member of their main roster due to Visa issues. That being said, there are still some major factors at play that should make predictions fairly simple and as time goes on, more accurate. Before diving into these or your own predictions make sure to check out our event page! So let’s get into it; Starting with the games on Saturday January 25th. Two of the top three teams all last year start off the Split, as is tradition, and Cloud9 is almost a different roster. I personally put C9 in 6th in my Power Rankings but ultimately people put C9 in the top 4 teams across the board. Team Liquid will be without their Jungler Broxah, but for the most part this really shouldn’t hinder their power level all that much. Whether they play Pobelter or MikeYeung shouldn’t really matter. Pound for pound the biggest asset on C9 is Licorice and until the rest of the squad shows up, that may not be enough to upset TL in the first game of the season. Expect TL to win here. Huni will have less than a week of scrims with the main Dignitas roster which shouldn’t be their biggest pitfall but could hinder their ability to take over this match. CLG being 5th in my Power Rankings with the core unit of Ruin, Wiggily, and Stixxay, adding Crown and Smoothie into the mix offers them a solid team who shouldn’t have to try too hard to beat my 10th place predicted Dig squad. If Dignitas decides to utilize their Academy roster players, this 60/40 could easily flip from CLG favored to DIG favored. GGS rebranded to GG and with that rebranding dumped their Mid, Jungle, and Support roles leaving only Hauntzer and FBI to lead their team to victory. Against a seemingly more stable 100T roster, Hauntzer won't be able to carry. In my opinion 100T should be a force to be reckoned with this split and I don’t think I’m exaggerating when I say this match is 100T favored by a lot in my book. This match will be a little more difficult to predict. It isn’t an exact coin toss, but with each team having experienced veterans and returning pros from previous splits, the prevailing team is really only winning by a small amount. Power of Evil, WildTurtle and Ignar could really ruffle the feathers of IMT but in the long run IMT have sOAZ and Xmithie leading the team which could prove to be more useful. At face value FlyQuest should edge out Immortals but it really could go either way. Sunday’s matches are similarly set up, the full ability of each team has yet to be seen however. While neither of these teams will be at full power level yet, we will have seen a game from Dignitas while EG will be playing their first game here. Even with that knowledge it is safe to assume that EG will clearly be the better team if all goes according to plan for both teams. An exciting match for many reasons should be EG favored. TSM’s first showing of the season will be against IMT, having seen IMT play on stage once already is just another advantage to the side of TSM. The rest include just about every position that isn’t Jungle, while Dardoch is one giant question mark, we know he can hold his own in the right conditions. One of the most one-sided predictions of the week is TSM winning here over Immortals. GGGG or Golden Guardians Goldenglue will be facing off against the team that decided they didn’t actually want him to take over their mid lane duties. While GG fans and the team alike will be hoping for a win here, C9 should be rounding their week 1 out 1-1. In my Power Rankings this is 7th place versus 5th place, which would be something like a 60-40 split but I think this one will be a lot closer. FlyQuest will be able to upset some of the teams above them and if they can find a rhythm they could quickly find themselves climbing the ranks, CLG would be a great win for them and they are fully able to do so. That being said, there’s no reason to believe that CLG would just flop over. We get 2 games on Monday the 27th starting at 6:30pm MST. This week, the two games are set up for what I feel are the top 4 teams coming into the season. EG and 100T will be facing off followed by TL vs TSM. My number 4 and number 3 teams, I may have put too much stock into both of them if we are being honest but I stand by my Power Rankings, 100T are slight favorites in my opinion but EG are more than likely going to come out swinging. Both teams will have played a match before today so we will know a little more coming into this one. My gut says 100T in a game of margins and with a 50-50 split I have faith 100T will come out on top in this one. This will be TSM’s first chance at proving to themselves the last 2 years have been worth the struggle. As the main threat to TL’s 2-0 week 1 record, I believe they will be able to capitalize on the lack of Broxah moreso than the C9 roster will be able to. So a 55-45 split for TL turns into a 55-45 split for TSM, assuming Kobbe and Biofrost can stop DoubleLift and Jensen from rolling over the rest of their team. Week 1 predictions are a volatile one, but each correct prediction here just pads the stats for the rest of the season. What do you think about our predictions and what are your own?
