The First week of the 2020 LCS Spring Split is complete now that the first ever Monday night League is done and what a wild week it was! Predictions, Power Rankings, and expectations were all upset this week and hopefully are continually destroyed, or not depending on your preference. Either way let’s go over how the week went. For newcomers, information on the Split can be found here. C9 was able to dominate both Team Liquid and Golden Guardians this week which will be a big buffer moving forward. In their game against TL they showed some true power making a small come back and turning the game into a curb stomp for C9. in their game against Golden Guardians they played a lot slower in comparison, ending TLs match at just 24 minutes while GG were able to stall for until 33 minutes. If C9 are able to keep this competitive the rest of the year, they are sure to change my mind about their teams true potential. I’ll be the first to admit that this isn't how I envisioned week one going for Dignitas. It wasn’t a walk in the park for the team however as their match against CLG went to the 40 minute mark and seemed to be off the backs of their more experienced players in Huni and Froggen. Against Evil Geniuses, the rookie ADC in Johnsun as well as Huni were able to capitalize on the many mistakes of EG, closing that match out in only 28 minutes. It was a real head scratching moment watching Svenskeren and the rest of EG not really find any momentum after their First Blood. For the other 2-0 teams I see some great arguments for when it comes to keeping the pace. FlyQuest were on a timer for when Viper’s Riven would decimate Immortals, seems 38 minutes was enough. In their match against CLG they were in the lead for a substantial amount of time and really were only able to close it out the best way they knew how, slowly. They did dominate CLG overall but a 32 minute closeout didn't make much sense. 100 Thieves showed their highs and their lows this week. Their game against Golden Guardians was almost too hard to watch, it was a decent blood bath with Meteos playing from behind all game but they were able to close it out at the 38 minute mark. EG were able to shut down 100T at around the same time but the two teams were really evenly matched. The entire time they were only 500 gold apart until the very end where EG were able to finally beat them. This team has a lot to work on even after going even on the week. Their loss to Dignitas was plagued with individual error on a roster where that can only be expected from one player. Their win over 100T was a different experience from their first match but even so there was only a short period of time towards the end where they really showed they were the better team on the day which isn’t enough even this early on. Maybe we are surprised, maybe we aren’t. The team really needs their S tier Jungler to show so they can be more consistent but losing to C9 in the fastest game of the week doesn’t speak much to their number 1 team image. Shernfire shouldn’t be held accountable for their loss, or their victory over TSM while maybe Jensen can be for both. Expect this team to perform a lot better in the coming weeks. The more I watch this team, the less excited I become about their roster. Sure, they were able to beat TSM in a 61 minute brawl but they disrespected FlyQuest and Viper, and lost accordingly. There isn’t much more to say about this team, other than 1-1 isn’t bad, or good. Team SoloMid and Bjergsen have their work cut out for them already this split. They lost to both Team Liquid with a sub and Immortals in a 61 minute match that just should have ended at 30. The main problem seems to be their drafts rather than their individual plays. Dardoch seems to be doing well and really shined in TL vs TSM getting 2 early ganks off on DoubleLift. Zilean for Bjergsen may always seem like a good idea, but knowing the Mid laners capabilities on carries begs the question, why Zilean? It’s really difficult to say that CLG should have gone 0-2 this week, but here we are. The team really seemed to struggle all around with their mid to late game against Dignitas and really just struggled the entire time against FlyQuest. Crown seems to be holding back from his real potential and that's one thing that needs to change out of the Mid laner if this team wants to make a name for itself this year. Before this week we all held the stigma of GG being the worst team in the league. Well… it looks like maybe it really is. Then again, they put up one hell of a fight this week against both Cloud9 and 100T. GoldenGlue is the star of the show and that uncanny Bot lane duo isn’t the worst thing since Team Coast to ever enter the LCS… with a little more elbow grease this team really could make waves later in the year. The week is over, and really Monday Night League was the worst part of it. Or maybe the hour long grudge match between TSM and IMT was, but either way it was a great start to the year. We had six games with Infernal Soul, three games with Cloud Soul, and one game with Mountain Soul. Hopefully we will get to see some Ocean Souls next week.
