#HSH Week 8: Group D Preview

#HomeSweetHome and its fifth iteration has reached play in group B and we are about to see four teams who have all competed in the tournament before. Apeks and AVEZ both have participated once with disappointing results and they are looking for revenge. They are however joined by Team Spirit, who are favoured to possibly win it all, and Team Secret who reached the grand final in the precious. As such group B looks like one of the tougher ones on paper. We will preview all teams and see if the two underdogs can challenge the two big names in the group as we make our final prediction. Apeks is about to enter their second week of #HomeSweetHome, as their first showing was during the third week. That time the Norwegians managed to reach the playoffs through wins against AVEZ and Virtus.Pro, but the run came to a quick end as they faced the reigning champions BIG in the quarterfinals. Since then the team has competed in BLAST Rising and the track record is bleak with six straight best of one losses. On their best days players like truth and Marcelious give Apeks a chance to compete with most, but right now the wind is blowing the wrong way for the team and it’s hard to give them any opportunities in this group. Secret and Spirit are both teams that look much better than Apeks right now and the third week will most likely end in a disappointment. AVEZ have participated in#HomeSweetHome two times and it has ended with a quick exit both times. Just like Apeks the Polish squad has also played in BLAST Rising and even if they have won against Secret twice the overall track record is nothing to brag about. AVEZ will now play with the legend byali and maybe that can help the team improve, but honestly that seems rather unlikely. Players like KEi and Kylar can every now and then carry this team to victory, but against the tough opposition in this group it honestly looks quite hopeless. Sadly the most realistic scenario is that AVEZ brings home another last placing. We have been throwing a whole lot of praise Secrets way, and they have deserved it. In the previous week of #HomeSweetHome they made it all the way to the finals after beating Gambit Youngsters and SMASH Esports in the playoffs. However it has to be said that they got one of the easiest ways possible to get there and in the final they stood close to no chance against the juggernaut Complexity. Anything besides a playoff spot would obviously be a disappointment after that performance, but it honestly could get tough as they now face a really tough group draw. It’s noteworthy that the team has replaced Filip "tudsoN" Tudev with rallen. If Secret wants to have any chance to repeat the run of last week players like juanflatroo and anarkez once again have to be on their absolute best. We don’t believe the cinderella story will continue to that extent, but we do think they will reach the playoffs after a tough struggle. During the first and second week of #HomeSweetHome Team Spirit showed that they are a real threat by reaching the grand final once and playoffs in the second. If that isn’t enough Spirit has also managed to win ESL One. Road to Rio CIS after a magnificent performance where they won seven straight series. The competition in that tournament is of very high level and it’s impossible to not have the team as a clear favourite to win it all in the fifth week, especially with the previous winners Complexity and BIG not participating. The whole team has performing amazingly well lately, but if we would need to highlight one player it would be mir. He has been outstanding the last few months and even if Spirit has ended up in a tough group, it shouldn’t be that tough for them, as they are on fire right now.
