The fifth week of #HomeSweetHome is nearing its end and only the semifinals and the grand final remains. With that said it’s time for us to have a look at how the two semifinals are shaping up and how a possible grand final might play out. SMASH Esports, Syman Gaming, Team Spirit and Heroic are all left with the hopes to become the third team to win an iteration of #HomeSweetHome. $40,000 is up for grabs just like all the previous and upcoming weeks. As we have mentioned several times SMASH has been improving constantly in #HomeSweetHome and even if they have once earlier been in a semifinal, the team looks poised to make it all the way this time. They won their group after wins against Hard Legion Esports and AGO, which lead to a tight quarterfinal against Nordavind. Kristjan “shokz” Jakobson and Denis “grux” Gutaj has once again had a great week in the tournament, but Joakim “disco doplan” Gidetun has shown up for the team when they needed it the most. If he can continue the high level of play SMASH look ready to finally enter a grand final of #HomeSweetHome. Syman on the other hand is playing in their third week of the tournament and while they have made a semifinal before, it was due to other teams dropping out. This time it’s their own strength that has brought them here and their wins against c0ntact Gaming and Team Secret earlier in the tournament has been impressive feats. While we count David “n0rb3r7” Danielyan and Nicolas “Keoz” Dgus as the stars of the team, it is Sanzhar “neaLan” Ishhakov who has stepped up immensely this week. The young talent has truly been the difference between wins and losses. To conclude both teams have had an impressive week, but it’s definitely been close wins until this point. SMASH however looks like a very consistent team on the rise, while Syman is quite hit or miss in general. We believe SMASH to be the favourites here and a grand final in #HomeSweetHome would be a massive success for the promising team. Both of the teams in this semifinal was included in the favourites to win it all in the fifth week of #HomeSweetHome. Now we are expecting a real slugger fest to make it all the way. Spirit has impressed everybody through winning ESL One: Road to Rio CIS and when they now came back to #HomeSweetHome expectations were set high. After a loss to Team Secret the team managed to secure a playoff spot through a convincing win against Apeks where the team only lost 9 rounds in two maps. This was followed up by a quarterfinal wins against forZe where the team showed both their strengths and weaknesses. We highlighted Nikolay “mir” Bityukov as the player to watch in Spirit and he has lived up to that, and more. He looks like an early candidate for the MVP title this week, but first he will need to carry his team through their toughest challenge yet, as Heroic will not be a pushover by any means. The Danish squad is a big name in the CS:GO scene, and while they haven’t got it all to click just yet, there was no doubt they entered their first week of #HomeSweetHome as a favourite. They have lived up to the expectations by winning their group after wins against Winstrike and Nordavind, which lead to a hard fought win against Hard Legion Esports in the quarterfinal. The whole team has performed on a high level this far, but we have to highlight Nikolaj “niko” Kristensen and Martin “stavn” Lund who have stepped up in the most heated situations to make sure Heroic has made it this far. This matchup could without a doubt be the final itself and whoever wins will be the favourite against SMASH or Syman. We believe Spirit has the highest potential, but are lacking a bit of consistency, which makes it a tough call. Today we are siding slightly on the side of Spirit anyway, sorry Denmark.
